Sugarbelt 400 CANCELLED amid COVID-19 pandemic

Following the “National State of Disaster” statement issued by President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday pertaining to the global coronavirus pandemic,  SACCS the organisers and promoters of the SA National Cross Country Championship has cancelled the Sugarbelt 400, round two of the championship scheduled to take place on April 3 and 4 in KwaZulu-Natal.

In view of the anticipated lockdown period, the decision has also been made to postpone the Clarens 400 on May 22 and 23.  As matters stand, a decision regarding the forthcoming Toyota 1000 Desert Race on June 26, 27 and 28 will be made mid-April.

“We have been monitoring the status of the COVID-19 pandemic as events developed internationally and locally and in compliance with the statement released by the President,  and the severity of the situation we have to act responsibly ”  explained CEO Archie Rutherford.

“The health and safety of our competitors and their families, sponsors, officials and the wider community is of paramount  importance.  We acknowledge that this is very disappointing, however, guided by global best practice we believe this is the only way forward”

An announcement regarding a possible reshuffle of the 2020 calendar will be made taking all the prevailing directives into consideration.
