The Vryburg Motor Club, spearheaded by Victor Fincham, assisted by a great bunch of club members and volunteers, worked feverishly towards presenting us with the Molopo 250 this coming Saturday 17th February. The venue for Round 1 of the Northern Regions Cross Country Car Racing Championship is at Vryburg Motor Club, approximately 4 kms from Vryburg on the Tosca Road (R378) – GPS co-ordinates: 26°54’52.3″S 24°41’39.6″E.
Cars, bikes and quads have raced in this area since the eighties in the iconic TDR 1000. Racers can look forward to typical Kalahari terrain meaning loads of tight sections in the Kalahari bush with a few high-speed straights thrown into the mix. Competitors can also expect a few quarries and rocky sections along the route as well, adding to the variety of terrain. The common theme though, will be sand and rocks. And with new terrain to be covered, the competitors can look forward to a challenging but enjoyable route.
The event will kick off with a morning prologue of 42 kms to determine the starting order and time gaps for the main race.
The main race consists of two loops of 124 kms for a total race distance of approximately 290 kms, providing non-stop action throughout the day.
With plenty spectator points along the route and free access to the pit area, it is a fun outing for the whole family and we expect to see many local spectators along the route.
The locals will have plenty to cheer for with nearly 20 of the total entries coming from Vryburg Motor Club Members.
The program for the day is as follows:

In another first for Vryburg, the competitors will do a parade lap through town and 34+ Cross Country racing cars rolling through the streets will make for an awesome sight to behold!
A great number of local companies are supporting this iconic event in the form of various sponsorships. First off, the event will be broadcast on DSTV IGNITION CHANNEL 189 and this was made possible by the support from ANDRE KOCK EN SEUN, MACK’S PETROLEUM, VRYBURG MIDAS AND VRYBURG MOTOR CLUB.
4X4 MEGAWORLD VRYBURG is the proud sponsor of the 4X4 Megaworld Vryburg Prologue used to determine starting orders for the main race. TOP BREAKDOWNS VRYBURG is the official sponsor of Vryburg Motor Club and their contribution is also greatly appreciated.
A further thanks in advance goes out to the local authorities – SAPS, Traffic and Vryburg Municipality – for their support of this event. On Friday evening prior to the event, VMK is hosting a ‘Legends of Off-Road’ event and a special thanks goes to VRYBURG CLUB for the sponsoring of the venue. There will be food and drinks on sale during race day into Saturday evening which will end off with the prize giving function. Vryburg Round Table will be responsible for the liquid refreshments and Soutpan Laerskool for the foodstuffs.
A great field of 34 racers will provide loads of action throughout the day. A number of National Championship contenders are using this event as a test session before their season gets underway and the sight of these cars in full flight is something to behold.
In the Regional Championship classes and categories we expect the competition to be as fierce as always. Overall Production and Class D Champions – Lourens van Wyk & Cois Mare will be hard at work defending their titles and so will Class E Champions – Theuns du Toit & Arnold Nortje, with both teams in Toyota Hilux’s.
